Why is important to give Early Menopause a voice…?
As a women we all go through it right? Why does it matter if not happens a few years early…?
WRONG!
As a young women going through menopause you still go through all of the horrific physical and mental strains that any women will at any stage in her life!
But having to go through some of these earlier on in your life DOES make a difference!
The Physical Impact:
Crippling exhaustion and tiredness when you are likely in the early stages in your career, maybe sitting exams and all your peers have so much more energy and drive than you! It tips the balance!
You may have young children which take a lot of your en energy, when normally your children are a lot older when you experience the Menopause later in life.
Vaginal atrophy (thinning, drying and inflammation of your vagina) to have to live with this for DECADES of your life has a significant impact on your physical health and your emotional wellbeing and relationships with others.
Hot flushes are even more exposing and embarrassing when you may not understand them and even when you do you may not be ready to share with the world what is happening in your body.
The mental impact:
The cause. The impact of why your body has entered an early menopause. It is not the "natural" ageing process, and that brings so much additional stress. Whether you have gone through a surgical menopause, you have POI, you are investigated for genetic or hormonal conditions you were unaware of/ All of this brings an additional level of stress and worry! This should be recognised!
Mood swings and uncontrollable emotions at a time when you are supposed to feel in some sort of control of your life. It is draining. Fluctuating hormones are draining!
Anxiety.Through your 20’3 and 30’s when you are still growing as a person. You don’t need any extra help to feel anxious. There are already enough pressures on young people these days! When it seems like your peers are finally finding their feet and you feel this underlying anxiety which you can’t put your finger on.
Relationship’s. How do you explain and navigate these changes in your body with other people. Any big life change brings about stress in life and this has a significant impact on romantic relationships and friendships at any age. But having to contend with this in your teens and early adult years can impact the ability to even form the foundations of these relationships.
